Energy rating tools have been incorporated into the Australian
Building Codes recently as a means of demonstrating compliance
to the energy provisions component of the code.
It is widely anticipated that by the end of 2006 it will become
mandatory to demonstrate a minimum 4 to 5 star House Energy
Rating in homes before they are able to be sold as part of
the governments objective to reduce Australia 's Green House
gas emissions.
The improvement of building energy efficiency is seen to
deliver significant benefits that can be best demonstrated
through a universal approach to measuring by way of energy
efficiency stars representing:
- Lower building operating costs
- Lower impact on the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions
- Improve resale value of buildings and improve tenant outgoings making the building more energy efficient and thus desirable.
Following are the types of rating tools available. For more
